Some Comics on Tapastic

Hello everyone,
I've recently been uploading my not-so-daily comics onto this great website I've discovered recently: Tapastic.

Here's the link!

http://tapastic.com/series/Some-Comics

I came across it whilst looking for where I could host a webcomic (for an upcoming project with a writer) and it seems pretty good, and it's available as an App. Which is cool but unfortunately I have a windows phone and I can't get the App - sad times, but maybe you can! I've put all the comics from my website and blog on there and I've recently scanned all of the comics I've drawn in my sketchbook which you may have seen on my Instagram. I'll be uploading those daily for at least the next week and then I'll work out a method of keeping them daily as I draw them. The good thing about Tapastic is that you can schedule uploads so if I just sit down and colour a bunch I can get working on new comics in the time it takes.

Here's a couple that I've uploaded recently.

Thanks for reading! :)

Alien Nation

Editorial illustration for an article titled 'Alien Nation' wrote by Stephen Pincock from FT magazine January 2005.

This illustrates a specific part of the article -
"Meanwhile, as astrobiologists engage in these serious projects, movie makers still can't get past the idea of little green men."

I got one of those new coins

I was going for the Queen taking a selfie for this but I'm not sure if it comes across. The hashtags on the coin for those who can't see are: #2015 #QUEEN4LYF #YOUNEVERBEROYALS #DOLLADOLLA #YOLO

Why the long face?

Another illustrated tweet! This time from a comedian who is/used to be part of comedy troupe Picnicface.
Trying this method out again, quite like the marks made but it needs refining still.

Lobotomobile, Irish Cricket and THE DRESS

THE DRESS, a topic of much discussion on the 27/02/15, is it blue and black? Is it white and gold? It's blue and black.

F is for Fear

Today's word is Fear.

C is for Curiosity

If you've been following my blog/my work you may find this familiar. Last year we were given a brief to illustrate 6 intangible words for an A-Z book. This year I've decided to continue the brief and draw the other 20 words to make a complete book.

Twitter Illustrations

First twitter illustration of the week was the above. I tried something a little different, think it needs refining but it got the job done, I was retweeted by Mark Millar (writer of Kick-Ass, Wanted, The Secret Service) and received many 'favourites'.
Aw yis.

The Oscars was all over the Internet yesterday, especially John Travolta being creepy, or 'Travolting'. Hehehe. He's like a lizard man in disguise, he hasn't aged well.

Satanists again

I have revisited a previous brief (editorial illustration for an article on satanism in South Africa) before end of semester hand in and created a gif from one of my illustrations that I didn't go with.

This was the original drawing. I didn't go with it because I felt it was too simple, too flat and possibly boring

However after feedback it was suggested that it was one of the stronger ones but didn't have a gif to go with it as per the brief instructions.

So here's the gif!

Revisiting it I went with this first, however I felt the eyes and grin were unnecessary and looked out of place. Also I realised that the man shouldn't relax his expression until the hand had disappeared. Both of which I have amended below.

As seen here.

Following some techniques I've used in my last brief on ghost stories I have used textures on this gif as well.

Ghost Story finals

Cover for The Folio Collection of Ghost Stories (front and spine of binding)

Full cover/binding

Illustration for 'The Treasure of Abbot Thomas'

Additional Gif

Illustration for 'The Upper Berth'

Gif of the character breathing in the cold.

Illustration for 'A Tale of an Empty House'

Gif of man watching the main character from the window.

Ghost Stories cover

The cover for The Folio Collection of Ghost Stories. I went with a visual of The Tale of an Empty House for the cover. As bindings/covers for folio society books use 3 colours (cover and 2 print colours) I designed it to that format.

The book material would be the dark blue as depicted below with an off white and dark grey as the printed colours.

I tried some different colours for the background thinking the current one would be too dark and to see if there was a colour that might suit it better.

I decided to go with the dark green/teal colour. When it came to placing the text on the spine, I realised the small house on the spine interfered with the text so I removed it.
